- Imagine spending each summer of your college years pursuing a fascinating internship working at the Smithsonian Institute or a psychology lab at Harvard.
- That’s what Samantha Fitzsimmons Schoenberger ’17 was able to do thanks to financial and other support from Grinnell’s Center for Careers, Life, and Service.
Supporting Internships & Careers
I received funding from the CLS every summer I was here at Grinnell to pursue unpaid internships that I otherwise would not have had the opportunity to take. So I had the chance to work at the Smithsonian Institute at Harvard University and a psychology lab. Because Grinnell not only provided me with the financial funds to make that happen. But the CLS provided me with support throughout the summer-- structuring goals for my summer or talking about roadblocks that I was hitting with my supervisor or conflicts that I would potentially face in the workplace and how to work through those. I also debriefed with that mentor when I came back to campus in the fall, to talk about how to contextualize internships in my larger trajectories and my trajectory is windy, but all of these internships certainly played a part in building my research skill set not only in a town of Grinnell. but further afield throughout the US.
