What's So Special About Grinnell?
Something that's really important to know is that all the students that are currently here on campus chose to be here on campus. And because all the students were very intentional in choosing to come to Grinnell College, that adds to a very bright, a very vibrant and inclusive community. It's a really supportive environment, where people want to be respectful of each other's identities and help you figure out who you are as a person. There's a lot of community and I think I really enjoyed that, especially as a first year. It was just like, everybody took me under their wing and was like, I'm here to help you like you belong here, that sort of thing. And that's been super great and super important to me, especially as a first generation student, who didn't really have that before. One of the things that I love the most about being a part of Grinnell's community is the fact that, it's not just students who are involved in this campus. It's our professors because most of them live across the street from campus. And it's also ,you know, the people who are living within the town of Grinnell itself to I think that for me has been something that's been very important about calling Grinnell my home. Just knowing that there's a community of people that like actually care, and actually wish like the best for you is special to me, because it in like in different environments that I've been in, you don't really get the the vibe that Grinnell has, you don't get that as much so-- and I think that that like translates into like, academics and personal life, and everything. I always say, you know, you're within 20 feet of someone you love or someone you know. And so when you walk down the street or you walk on the sidewalk to class, you're expected to look up and just smile and engage with people around you. Like even if people-- even if you don't know those people, the tight knit close community of Grinnell College, here, really encourages students to you know, take that step, smile, look up, say hello, say good morning. It's just so nice to be happy to have that open and friendly environment. We don't have an environment which says, Oh, I'm not going to help you because you're going to get ahead of me. Everybody genuinely wants to help you. So if you need help, like in class, if you don't understand the concept, just ask your classmates, ask your professor people are here to help you. I think we we care about building this environment. We care about making sure other people feel welcome and comfortable and supported here. And through my transition, through my four years, that's been something I've been-- I've wanted to pay back into. You know, I care about this campus and I care about what it becomes. And that's to me what is so special about Grinnell.
