    Residential Life

    Campus Life — Your Way

Grinnell is a small residential liberal arts college, which means most students live on campus in a tight-knit, supportive community. But there are plenty of choices — you’ll find one that is perfect for you.

Many students live in Grinnell’s residence halls, each of which has a unique character and different room configurations to choose from.

Other students choose to live in project houses that bring together people with a shared interest, such as a language or hobby. “You’ll always be able to find people of common interests, people of common background, and really connect with them,” says Nick El Hajj ’24.

At Grinnell you have the freedom to choose how you want to live. We have a lot of Project Houses, for example, those who are interested in farming can apply to live in the Farmhouse. You're interested in movies can apply to live in the Popcorn House. And you can even apply to start your own house with a bunch of your friends. So Language Houses are basically small houses where students major in that language. Students already speak that language have the ability to get that native feeling in the middle of Iowa, and really practice that language on a daily basis. We host events for CBS or ACSU primarily for Black students or Black affiliates. And there is a library in the basement. We'll go there play cards, play spades, we really go there to study and take study breaks there. And there's also a full-size kitchen in there. So we host events that involve cooking because cooking is a really big part of I guess my life and my culture. And that's the same way for other people. That's the way that we share our cultures with each other. You'll always able to find identification here at Grinnell be it the international [inaudible] organization, be at the Wisconsin Club, be it the racing club. You'll always be able to find people with common interests, people with common backgrounds, and really connect with them and get together and have events and activities.
