Your social life you get a lot of times with your friends and really, really small, intimate environments or when you're studying because to be honest, you are studying most of the time. And so the town is really great. It's small, but it has its quirks. And so you'll find basically the whole student body in front of your cafe every Sunday morning. There's Saints Rest, which is a frequent study spot with Jay's Deli in the back, which has great sandwiches and salads. There's the organic food store in town, which is McNally's that's great for a quick lunch bite. There's Walmart downtown. There's a movie theater, which is super old school. I'd never been in an old-school movie theater like that but it's really fun, and I recommend checking it out. As a singer-songwriter, I've been able to use that as a way to connect with the local community. I've performed at a few different venues in town. The Periodic Table is connected to Hotel Grinnell. I've performed at the Farmer's Market. So there's a space downtown where they encourage people to go create, whether that's performing art or visual art. And my second year, a group of friends and I created a singer-songwriter circle. So about twice a month we would get together and just perform recently written songs with each other and just give each other feedback on the songs. So it was a really fun way to get to connect with musicians who were students on campus and then a few people who were residents in the town.
